President and Chief Executive Officer




Cathy McCarthy currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of SM&A. Ms. McCarthy joined the Company in 2001 as the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary and served as President and Chief Operating Officer from February 2006 to July 2007.

Prior joining the Company, Ms. McCarthy served as Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Secretary of PIA Merchandising, Inc., as the Chief Financial Officer of The Giant Group, Inc., and in a variety of roles at Wherehouse Entertainment, Inc, including Chief Financial Officer. She started her career at Mellon Bank, N.A. where she served in various capacities over 18 years including Vice President of the High Leveraged Transaction Group and Vice President and Account Executive for major Retail and Consumer Product Fortune 500 and Middle Market companies.

Ms. McCarthy currently serves on the board of directors of Solta Medical and Clipper Corporation. Ms. McCarthy attended Robert Morris College majoring in finance and accounting, the University of Wisconsin School of Banking at Madison and the Carnegie Mellon University Executive Finance and Accounting Program.
Peter Pace
General Peter Pace, USMC (Ret.)
President & Chief Executive Officer, Strategic Advisors Incorporated



General Peter Pace is President and CEO of SM&A Strategic Advisors.

General Pace served for more than 40 years in the Marine Corps before retiring in October 2007 from the most senior position in the United States Armed Forces. As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2005 until 2007, he served as the principal military advisor to the President of the United States, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council during a time of tremendous change in the nation's strategic focus. Prior to becoming Chairman, he served as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from October 2001 to September 2005. General Pace holds the distinction of being the first Marine to have served in either of these positions.

A 1967 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, General Pace holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from George Washington University and attended Harvard University for the Senior Executives in National and International Security programs. The General is also a graduate of the Infantry Officers' Advanced Course at Fort Benning, Ga.; the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA; and the National War College at Ft. McNair, Washington, DC.

General Pace serves on the Board of Directors for the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation – a charity that provides scholarship bonds to children of Marines or Federal law enforcement personnel who were killed while serving our country at home or abroad.
Kevin  Reiners

As Chief Operating Officer of SM&A, Mr. Reiners has overall responsibility for the company’s go-to-market results and ensuring the highest level of quality of the services and products is provided to our clients. He joined the Company in September 2005 and has held several positions including Senior Vice President of Program Services and Executive Vice President of Operations.

Prior to joining SM&A, Mr. Reiners spent over twenty years with Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company. He served as Vice President of Programs where he was responsible for the implementation of Program Management processes and disciplines for all Space Systems programs. In addition, he led an SAP ERM/ERP system implementation for the Space Systems Company. He also held positions as the Business Director on the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program, Controller for Space and Strategic Missiles, and as the Program Manager for the Lockheed--Martin Marietta merger related Consolidation Program.

Mr. Reiners holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from San Diego State University
James Eckstaedt

Executive Vice President Mergers and Acquisitions



Mr. Eckstaedt joined SM&A in 2008 and is currently responsible for the planning and implementation of the Company’s merger and acquisition activities which continue to be a key component in SM&A’s growth strategy. Prior to his M&A role, Mr. Eckstaedt served as the Executive Vice President and CFO for the Company.

From 1997 to 2007, Mr. Eckstaedt held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Sage Software, Inc. Prior to Sage Software, Mr. Eckstaedt was the Chief Financial Officer of the Cerplex Group, Inc., a provider of outsourcing services for the computer industry. Before that, he held various finance positions at Western Digital Corporation and started his career as a staff auditor of Price Waterhouse and Co.

Mr. Eckstaedt is a graduate of Valparaiso University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Accounting. He is a member of the California Society of CPAs.
Daniel Hart

Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer



As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of SM&A, Mr. Hart maintains responsibility for the finance, treasury, accounting, legal, information technology and corporate governance functions of the Company. Mr. Hart joined the Company in 2004 and has held several positions including his recent service as Vice President and Corporate Controller.

Mr. Hart began his career in public accounting at Deloitte & Touche in the Business Advisory & Audit Services group and has held various financial and accounting roles in publicly traded companies culminating as the Corporate Controller role at BioLase Technology, a world leading dental laser company.

Mr. Hart is a graduate of the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo holding a degree in Business Administration, Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant by the State of California and is a member of the California Society of CPAs.

Anna Aguirre

Senior Vice President Human Resources




Ms. Aguirre joined the Company in July, 2007 as Senior Vice President, Human Resources. In this role, she has direct responsibility for human resources operations, recruiting, training, security and facilities.

A seasoned HR professional with over 18 years of experience, most recently Ms. Aguirre served for five years as the VP Global Human Resources and Facilities at Iomega Corporation, a leading provider of data storage products. As an integral member of the executive team, she provided strategic guidance and set policy in the areas of change management, organizational development, human resources planning and facilities management. Prior to that she lead the human resources and facilities functions at Proxima Corporation, a manufacturer of multimedia projectors.

Ms. Aguirre holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Economics from Humboldt State University. She also attended graduate studies in International Business at San Diego State University.
Joshua Garvey

Senior Vice President and General Manager, Aerospace and Defense Markets



Mr. Garvey has the overall responsibility for implementation of the Company’s strategy and the profit and loss of operations for services and products delivered to SM&A clients that operate in the A&D markets. He joined SM&A when his legacy company, PPI, was acquired in February 2007. Prior to his current role at SM&A, he served as Vice President of Program Planning and Controls and Vice President of Program Services.

At PPI, Mr. Garvey served as the Vice President of Operations starting in 2005. Prior to that, he spent nearly a decade at Raytheon Company working in roles of increasing responsibility from teaching Radar in the field, Mechanical Design Engineering, Program Architecture, Proposal Development, and Systems Engineering Management to spending his last years turning critical problem programs around with a focus on Cost & Schedule.

Mr. Garvey holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Mark Werny

Senior Vice President and General Manager, Government Information Technology Markets



Mr. Werny has the overall responsibility for implementation of the Company’s strategy and the profit and loss of operations for services and products delivered to SM&A clients that operate in the Government IT markets including State & Local, Healthcare and Commercial markets. He joined SM&A in 2004 and has held a variety of executive sales leadership roles in both the Government IT and A&D markets, most recently as SVP Sales and Business Development for the entire company.

Prior to joining SM&A in 2004, Mr. Werny served as Vice President, Sales at Genuone, an industry leading firm providing enterprise level secure product tracking software. Additionally, over his 25 year career, he led successful, front line enterprise sales teams in a variety of telecom, IT and software firms including Mitel, PictureTel, Latitude Communications (acquired by Cisco), and Essential Markets.

Mr. Werny holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Delaware.
