In this associate spotlight, we are highlighting Vivek Sharma, SMA: The Program Lifecycle Company’s Chief Software Engineer. When asked about his career path, Vivek shared the inspiration behind his choice to pursue software development. “I enjoy solving problems,” he explained. “As an engineer, my role involves addressing challenges, and as a software developer, I use code to tackle them.” 

Vivek recounted his professional journey, starting with his bachelor’s degree in India. That was followed by four years working at the country’s second-largest IT company in Bangalore. He then moved to the United States, completed his master’s degree in one year, and subsequently joined SMA. 

Reflecting on his start at SMA, Vivek recalled beginning as an intern and being drawn to the opportunity to work on TOD, which at the time was just a database. This role allowed him to broaden his expertise in all aspects of software development. 

“It’s not just about coding—you need to host your code too, which involves server networking and security,” Vivek noted. He appreciates working on TOD because it allows him to engage with a wide range of technologies, from mobile development to server hosting, networking, security compliance, and more. “This exposure keeps me learning about everything,” he added. 

Vivek also enjoys the dynamic work environment at TOD, citing the startup-like setting and agile approach as factors that keep his role challenging and rewarding. “Being part of a small team allows us to make quick changes and stay adaptable,” he shared. 

Looking ahead, Vivek provided insight into the future of TOD. “We’re working on a fresh design and new look, drawing on eight years of experience to improve usability, speed, and aesthetics. Expect exciting updates over the next four to six months as we overhaul the UI for TOD, which is now a significant and complex software.” The world of TOD is evolving, and Vivek’s contributions promise exciting developments ahead.
